We are currently recruiting a position for a
Program Coordinator for Community Education and Training under our TN MAHEC project.
The Meharry Medical College invites applications to fill five, tenure-track, faculty positions to build our program of interdisciplinary research in health services research in areas of health disparities that disproportionately affect racial and ethnic minorities. These include Cancer, Diabetes, Cardio-vascular disease, obesity, HIV/AIDS, intentional/unintentional injury, substance abuse, and infant mortality/women’s health. This open rank recruitment is part of Meharry Medical College’s Initiative to establish a new, national, minority health disparities research center. The primary appointments for these positions will be in the School of Medicine: Department of Family and Community Medicine, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, Internal Medicine or Psychiatry. Adjunct or joint appointments are possible in other departments and with affiliated academic partners. Relevant areas of health services research may include: the impact of family systems including parenting styles and family functioning in underserved youth; etiologic, metabolic, genetic, and cultural aspects of obesity and associated health conditions in children and adolescents; the influence of psychosocial, family, community, environment or policy factors on physical activity or nutrition as relates to children; and/or development and delivery of appropriate interventions. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience and expertise in health disparities, minority health, cultural competency, and community-based participatory research.
We encourage applications from candidates at the associate and/or professor level. Successful candidates will have demonstrated evidence of, or clear potential for, scholarly research, successful grant writing, and teaching excellence. He/she will be expected to pursue external funding for his/her program of research and to collaborate with existing research programs within the department and school. Qualifications include an earned doctorate in public health, health promotion, social policy, organizational behavior, or related behavioral/social science discipline with a focus in public health. Skills in program planning and evaluation, community and individual behavior change, sociopolitical processes, organizational and systems change, or structural interventions to promote health are desired, as is experience working in communities in the US and other countries. Formal and non-formal teaching in the applicant’s general area of expertise and consistent with the departmental and college needs is expected. Review of applications will begin by January 1, 2007, and will continue until hiring is complete. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. This recruitment is part of unprecedented growth at MMC with the development of the National Center for Optimal Health. The NCOH is interdisciplinary, collaborative, energetic, and forward-looking.
